BIRMINGHAM, AL (April 21, 2022) – Hendry County, Florida, Florida has appointed Retail Strategies, the leading national community development firm, to execute a retail recruitment plan on behalf of the county. The new partnership also includes supporting existing small businesses through training and technical assistance, as well as a downtown revitalization plan for the county. After initial discussions at an ICSC Florida conference, the county now has the means to engage in a partnership using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds allocated to the Economic Development Commission.

“The new Airglades International Airport development is going to transform our economy and bring in an influx of jobs and people,” said Keitha Daniels, executive director of Hendry County Economic Development Commission. “We will be using a proactive approach to enhance our retail, restaurant, and entertainment options. Having that quality of life component that retail brings is critical to us.”

“For years our team has wanted to partner with Hendry County,” said Sarah Beth Thornton, vice president of business development. “The new airport development will spark even more interest in the region. I am excited to work with Keitha and other county leaders with a focus on downtown, supporting local businesses, and recruiting quality retail and restaurant concepts to the market.”

Hendry County knows retail and quality of life are huge drivers of larger projects. In March 2020, Airglades International Airport broke ground on a new U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility that will be in Hendry County. This new facility will designate the Airglades International Airport as an official port of entry to the U.S. thus creating a major international multimodal logistics complex with a huge economic impact on the county, region, and state.

My relationship with the Retail Strategies team has been extremely valuable over the last couple of years as I’ve searched for sites in the Southeast. They have been persistent and provided any information they could gather for available properties that fit my criteria. If they received news that a space was coming available they made sure to immediately give me a call and connect with the owners. I would recommend using this service to any of my colleagues looking in their client cities.
