BIRMINGHAM, AL (January 27, 2026) – Following a competitive Request for Proposals process, the City of La Porte has selected Retail Strategies, a national economic development consulting firm specializing in retail recruitment, to lead targeted business attraction efforts. The firm will work with city leadership to identify and recruit retail and restaurant concepts that align with La Porte’s growing market.
“Retail Strategies has a reputation for consistent communication with the city and has a strong network in the state of Texas,” said Haley Bowers, Economic Development Manager for the City of La Porte. “We’re looking for a partner who will keep us informed every step of the way and actively work on our behalf. Retail Strategies’ established relationships with brokers, developers, and retailers throughout Texas, combined with their track record of results in similar markets, made them the right choice for La Porte. We’re excited to leverage their expertise to bring new retail and dining options that our residents and workforce have been asking for.”
Retail Strategies will begin by conducting comprehensive market analysis to understand La Porte’s demographic trends, population growth patterns, and retail opportunities. The team will complete an in-market tour to evaluate existing retail assets and available real estate opportunities. Beginning in February, Retail Strategies will represent La Porte at ICSC Red River in San Antonio, connecting city officials with brokers, developers, and expanding retail brands throughout Texas.
“We’re excited to start work in La Porte,” said Tyler Sudderth of Retail Strategies. “It’s an attractive market and already has a good foundation of national retail brands in the market, and we look to build on that.”
Located on the northwest shore of Galveston Bay in southeastern Harris County, La Porte has experienced steady population growth. The city’s strategic location – less than 30 minutes from downtown Houston and adjacent to major industrial districts including Bayport and the Port of Houston’s Barbours Cut terminal – provides a strong employment base and economic foundation.
The partnership represents La Porte’s commitment to strategic retail growth that serves both residents and the thousands of workers employed in the surrounding industrial corridor.
