Birmingham, Alabama (November 20, 2020) – The North Central Washington Economic Development District (NCWEDD) has partnered with Retail Strategies and awarded eight communities with a scholarship provided by funding from the CARES Act which will help sponsor the communities participating in the Retail Academy program.

Developed by Retail Strategies, the eight communities will first be taking part in an Online Retail Academy education course that will teach communities best practices to attract new retail and restaurants while providing resources to support and grow existing local businesses. The first phase will kick off on November 23rd. The eight communities awarded the sponsorship include Brewster, East Wenatchee, Entiat, Oroville, Pateros, Twisp, Waterville, and Wenatchee.

“NCWEDD wants to help our rural communities understand that retail is a strong catalyst for economic growth. The Retail Academy course will be the first step in helping educate and equip our local community leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to recruit and support local businesses.” said Alyce Brown, NCWEDD Executive Director. “Providing Retail Academy to our communities furthers NCWEDD’s mission to foster an innovative economy within each of our communities. We are excited to partner with Retail Strategies during these times to give North Central Washington’s cities the autonomy and tools to effectively pursue retail and real estate opportunities.”

“The NCWEDD has been proactive in ensuring their communities are set up for success during COVID-19,” said Matthew Tate, director of Business Development for Retail Strategies. “By attending Retail Academy, North Central Washington community leaders will gain the knowledge to further their economic success.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Retail Academy to North Central Washington and are convinced the education will help these cities understand that retail recruitment should be a big part of the economic development strategy in each community.”
