BIRMINGHAM, AL (April 8, 2025) – The North Tahoe Chamber has partnered with Downtown Strategies, a division of Retail Strategies, to develop a two-year action plan focused on short-term, asset-based revitalization initiatives in the town centers of Kings Beach/Tahoe Vista and Tahoe City.
The initiative will begin with a comprehensive community survey to gather public input, followed by on-site analysis and development of tailored strategies plus implementation support designed to enhance the economic vitality of Kings Beach/Tahoe Vista and Tahoe City.
“We chose Downtown Strategies because of their unique approach to community development with short-term action planning. Rather than creating a plan that sits on a shelf, they focus on deliverable actions that can be implemented quickly to show tangible results,” said Adam Wilson, COO of the North Tahoe Community Alliance. “This approach aligns perfectly with our need to find short term solutions while we work through redevelopment opportunities and build year-round economic resilience.”
The partnership will address unique challenges facing North Tahoe’s business community-aging infrastructure, and economic challenges particularly during shoulder seasons when tourism declines. The initiative will focus on three primary goals: understanding the local shopper demographics, increasing visitor traffic to town centers during shoulder season months, and building momentum through small-scale incremental projects that can demonstrate quick wins for the community.
Following delivery of the two-year action plan, Downtown Strategies will support the town centers with an extended implementation partnership, focused on providing technical support and executing a Project Mapping Workshop with local volunteers.
Downtown Strategies will work closely with a dedicated action team comprised of representatives from the North Tahoe Chamber, the North Tahoe Business Association, the Tahoe City Business Association, and Placer County Economic Development.
“North Tahoe is truly a gem with extraordinary natural beauty and vibrant communities,” said Jessica Bohlen, Community Engagement Director for Retail Strategies. “We’re thrilled to be selected by the Chamber to work on the town centers. Our team is eager to collaborate with local stakeholders to develop practical strategies that will drive business growth while preserving the unique character that makes this region so special.”
