BIRMINGHAM, AL (September 12, 2023) – Attendees from Screven County Development Authority will attend Retail Academy in an effort to focus on the future growth of restaurants and retail in the county. With funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), attendees will take part in a day-long Retail Academy course in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 14th. They will receive demographic data on consumers in the county, learn what retail and restaurant brands are a good fit for the City of Sylvania and learn how to pitch the community to real estate decision makers.
“Our team is excited to learn how to talk about ‘real estate’ when we try to bring new businesses to Screven County,” said Rachel Barnwell, Executive Director for the Screven County Development Authority. “We want to understand what criteria retail businesses consider when they want to open up in new places, and we believe the training we will receive in Retail Academy team will help us with that.”
“I have worked with the team in Screven County and Sylvania, Georgia for years throughout my career,” said Mill Graves, director of community partnerships at Retail Strategies. “This region is seeing a lot of activity with the new investment from Hyundai who is building a new EV manufacturing facility along I-16. I’m excited to have this group working with our team and be a part of Retail Academy.”
