As an experienced real estate professional and entrepreneur, Derek joined Retail Strategies as a Retail Development Coordinator carrying nearly a decade of industry experience in tenant representation, landlord representation, strip & neighborhood center leasing and property management.
Derek worked alongside 49 municipalities across 12 states holding his client’s interests & economic development vision at the highest level. Derek understood that trust, honesty, transparency and consistency were the pillars supporting any relationship, but it was particularly true in retail recruitment and development partnerships.
At 18, Derek started his first retail clothing business and understood the obstacles businesses of all sizes had to overcome to stay relevant and profitable in the global marketplace. The common denominator for success and sustainability in any retail setting was building trusting relationships.
Derek was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance with a concentration in corporate investment management. Derek returned to his alma mater where he worked as a Graduate Assistant while earning his master’s of science in marketing specializing in analytics and global market management.
Derek was a licensed real estate professional, a member of ICSC, and is was working towards his CCIM designation. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, offshore fishing, freediving and watching the Alabama Crimson Tide.
