Centre, Ala. – One East Alabama town is on the verge of an economic boom.

The city of Centre is paying a company Retail Strategies to help attract new retail businesses.

Council members liked the work the company has done for other cities like Fort Payne and Jasper, Alabama.

Right now is a very special point in our life here in Centre. We’re seeing some activities go on that we’re gonna be able to provide to our citizens that we haven’t been able to in the past because of lack of revenue.”

Tony wilkie, mayor of centre

The goal is to help bring in nationally known businesses. The city recently opened up a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant and Tractor Supply store.

“They have worked closely with and been able to get them to locate to these other cities that they have worked in,” Wilkie said in reference to Retail Strategies, “with what we have going on in our city and our location of where we are, I think it’s a slam dunk for us.”
