BIRMINGHAM, AL (July 29, 2022) – Clayton, North Carolina, has engaged Downtown Strategies, a division of Retail Strategies, to develop a downtown strategic plan on behalf of the city.

The plan will be defined and developed considering policy and administration, design, tourism and promotion, economic vitality, and in-market research. The Downtown Strategies team will travel to Clayton to tour its downtown and host a Strategic Visioning Workshop to gather input from community leaders, downtown business owners and stakeholders, and elected officials.

“We are hopeful that bringing more focus to downtown will strengthen what the community already has to offer,” said Patrick Pierce, Clayton’s economic development director. “Retail Strategies is a valued retail recruitment partner that gives a vast number of resources and education. We look forward to seeing the downtown team utilize the feedback they will receive at the visioning workshop to prepare our strategic plan that we will implement to enhance our downtown.”

“We are delighted to partner with the town of Clayton on a Downtown Strategic Plan.,” said Jenn Gregory, president of Downtown Strategies.” The town has seen significant growth that we hope to capitalize on by implementing the strategic plan. We look forward to the downtown workshop to kick-start the partnership.”

Coinciding with the Downtown Strategies partnership, the Town of Clayton’s Planning Department is also completing a Downtown Master Plan with a separate consulting company, McAdams. The Town of Clayton believes that going through the Strategic Plan and Master Plan process together will elevate both projects and ensure that efforts are united in setting goals for Downtown Clayton. The Master plan varies in that it has a broader scope with outcomes that are both short and long-term focused, potentially requiring more resources or internal coordination, and encompasses the broader downtown area.

My relationship with the Retail Strategies team has been extremely valuable over the last couple of years as I’ve searched for sites in the Southeast. They have been persistent and provided any information they could gather for available properties that fit my criteria. If they received news that a space was coming available they made sure to immediately give me a call and connect with the owners. I would recommend using this service to any of my colleagues looking in their client cities.
