BIRMINGHAM, AL (April 5, 2022) – The city of Clinton, Iowa has selected the community development firm, Retail Strategies, to help expand the city’s business recruitment efforts. The newly-formed partnership also includes a focus a Downtown Strategic Visioning Workshop to help refresh and revitalize the existing downtown corridor.
“We understand that when citizens of our community shop, oftentimes they spend their dollars elsewhere,” said Matt Brooke, Clinton’s City Administrator.
“In order to keep those dollars local, we’ve decided to bring in the Retail Strategies team to really focus on bringing new retail brands and restaurants to Clinton so that people can shop and dine locally. We have some of the best local dining options in the Midwest, many homegrown, but believe the long-term goal is to make available as many options as possible to truly have Clinton be the location for their retail and dining needs.”

The retail recruitment portion of the partnership entails both a data and analytics approach as well as a boots-on-the-ground tour of the market. The Retail Strategies team will act as an extension of the city’s economic development department, making outreach to expanding retailers, local property owners, brokers, and developers to generate interest in the Clinton market.
The Downtown Strategies division of Retail Strategies will conduct an in-market workshop where downtown stakeholders will provide input about downtown Clinton. A five-year strategic plan will be delivered to the city after the Strategic Visioning Workshop.
