BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 28, 2023) – Stockton, California, has appointed Retail Strategies to create and execute a retail recruitment plan on behalf of the city. The partnership also includes the creation of a five-year downtown revitalization plan.

“We are looking forward to working with Retail Strategies on national retail attraction focusing on our downtown corridor. We selected Retail Strategies based on their history of being successful working in markets like Stockton and their comprehensive approach to community development.”

Harry Black, City Manager, City of Stockton

“Charting as one of the largest cities in California, the City of Stockton is not only business-friendly with purposeful, proactive economic development, but it has been ranked the 4th most fiscally healthy city in the United States and awarded as an ‘All-American City’ three times over the last 10 years,” said Brookley Valencia, portfolio director for Retail Strategies. “Culturally rich and diverse with thousands of business establishments, Stockton’s strong retail node will attract many other expanding businesses to the area. Retail Strategies will focus on six retail zones within the city for strategic retail recruitment. Our team is excited to work with city staff to build and execute a plan to support Stockton’s expansion.”

In addition to the retail attraction focus, the downtown revitalization work will be performed by Downtown Strategies, a division of Retail Strategies. The team hosted a Strategic Visioning Workshop in early June, featuring a walking tour of downtown, to gather input from community leaders, business owners, stakeholders, and create a customized, strategic action plan for the city, focusing on five key pillars: market analysis, policy and administration, design, tourism and promotion, and economic vitality.

My relationship with the Retail Strategies team has been extremely valuable over the last couple of years as I’ve searched for sites in the Southeast. They have been persistent and provided any information they could gather for available properties that fit my criteria. If they received news that a space was coming available they made sure to immediately give me a call and connect with the owners. I would recommend using this service to any of my colleagues looking in their client cities.
