BIRMINGHAM, AL (March 11, 2022) – The City of Marshall is set to focus on the future of retail and restaurant development in the community by attending Retail Academy. City staff will attend the day-long Retail Academy program in Birmingham, Alabama where they’ll learn about the consumer population and how to turn that data into action by speaking to retail real estate decision makers.

“We attended a large retail real estate conference in 2021 and realized that our team could use assistance in speaking ‘real estate’ when attracting new businesses to Marshall,” said Joel Sims, Senior technician of Zoning and Development for the City of Marshall. “We know that the Retail Strategies team has the real estate expertise to train us on the best practices and process for recruiting retail. We’re excited to attend Retail Academy and immerse ourselves with their team.”

“With the ideal location of Marshall being situated just off of I-70, there are opportunities to bring new retail and restaurant brands to the community,” said Beth Miller, portfolio director for Retail Strategies. “Navigating the retail recruitment process and understanding the numerous roles in the decision-making process is challenging. The attendees of Retail Academy walk away with the necessary data and contacts to begin the process.”

My relationship with the Retail Strategies team has been extremely valuable over the last couple of years as I’ve searched for sites in the Southeast. They have been persistent and provided any information they could gather for available properties that fit my criteria. If they received news that a space was coming available they made sure to immediately give me a call and connect with the owners. I would recommend using this service to any of my colleagues looking in their client cities.
