BIRMINGHAM, AL (September 21, 2022) – Wasco, California, has appointed Retail Strategies to create and execute a retail recruitment plan on behalf of the city. The partnership also includes city leaders attending a day-long training through Retail Academy program and the creation of a five-year downtown revitalization plan focused on the HWY 46 corridor. After discussions with multiple firms, the city council unanimously selected Retail Strategies to become the city’s community development partner.

“Wasco is very excited to have Retail Strategies as our retail and real estate partner,” said Scott Hurlbert, city manager of Wasco. “By selecting Retail Strategies team to work on both national retail attraction as well as our downtown corridor, we are really taking a holistic approach to enhancing Wasco’s position in the market.”

Matthew Tate, director of business development for Retail Strategies, said, “Wasco’s leadership made it very clear to me that finding a way to help fund their public safety program was a high priority. Our retail recruitment program will help expedite the process of finding a new funding mechanism for the city which will allow them to expand the public safety program quicker.”

Through the new partnership, Retail Strategies will perform a real estate market analysis of the businesses located in Wasco and identify areas of opportunity for expanding companies and act as an extension of the city’s economic development staff.

Members of Wasco’s city staff will attend a live in person Retail Academy workshop at Retail Strategies’ Fort Worth, Texas office later this year.

My relationship with the Retail Strategies team has been extremely valuable over the last couple of years as I’ve searched for sites in the Southeast. They have been persistent and provided any information they could gather for available properties that fit my criteria. If they received news that a space was coming available they made sure to immediately give me a call and connect with the owners. I would recommend using this service to any of my colleagues looking in their client cities.
